Summary of Position:

The Buyer is accountable for ensuring all materials required for manufacturing are ordered at the right time, at the right quantity and at the right price, to ensure operations are running efficiently and controlled inventory levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, place and communicate PO to suppliers, both manually and from the ERP system
  • Maintain inventory for all plants (Canada & the U.S.A.)
  • Track and report on KPIs
  • OTD from suppliers
  • Inventory management
  • Implement best practices in cost reduction
  • Maintain planning parameters of purchased components in the ERP system
  • Warranty handling when suppliers are involved
  • In cooperation with Purchasing Manager and manufacturing, assist in the evaluation of supplier performance
  • Work with under-performing suppliers to improve, or locate alternate suppliers
  • Handles the day-to-day purchasing functions
  • Provide accurate costing for purchased items related to potential new business at quotation stage
  • Initiate projects / reports that contribute to continuous improvement or profit opportunities

Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in supply chain and/or scheduling within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in ERP system, M3 is an asset - but not necessary
  • Solid intermediate Excel skills
  • APICS CPIM /CSCP or PMAC or equivalent Supply Chain certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with competing deadlines
  • Effective time management abilities
  • Understanding of total cost model such as freight, admin cost, inventory cost, component price etc.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge is an asset
  • Highly organized and pays close attention to detail
